um, yeah,....fun....
Sam has had 3 ear infections in 2 just over 2 months. Finally, I started thinking along the lines of allergies. He had some blood drawn (oh, YEAH, that was fun....NOT.) for these alergy tests and we got the results yesterday. They tell me that he has possible sensitivities to three things: a common mold (they didn't say which one), a common weed (again, don't know which one), and cow's milk proteins. So, he has to lay off of all cow's milk products for a few weeks and see what happens. I did get him some goats milk, like what he was on as an infant, so that he can still get the calcium and other good things he needs for a growing body. I'm not so sure if I should be giving him that right now or not. I'm wondering about soy milk for 2 weeks, though I'm not really keen on only soy milk for little kids if it can be avoided. Oh well, I guess I'll do some more research and see where we go from there.

Sorry to hear about Sam! This might not the case, but sometimes frequent ear infections can be due to excess fluid in their ears. Then they need tubes put in their ears to help drain it. That's what happend to Nathan, but he didn't have ear infections, he just failed his hearing tests. And ended up getting his enlarged tonsils and adenoid taken out too!! sheesh! Maybe take Sam to an ENT dr? I know how frustrating that stuff can be! HANG IN THERE!! ~*muah*~
Here is one opinion:
http://www.lactose.co.uk/milkallergy/calcium.html
This article gives other good sources of calcium and says that people who are allergic to cow's milk might also be allergic to goat's milk!
I went through the lactose thing when I was nursing Spencer. Good luck! Can't wait to see y'all soon! :)
I don't think he has a problem with hearing, but it's always another venue to explore if we can't figure this out. However, I think it may be related to allergies because his eyes get mucky (like it's because he's congested or something) and has a really runny nose. Everytime he gets one of these ear infections, he gets blood in the mucous coming from his nose.
And I don't think it's the lactose that he has a problem with, it seems to actually be the proteins in milk. Though, that website is a really good source of information for calcium loaded foods! Thanks for your help, ladies. Love ya
